Cut open a Madan Fransik mango, and the sweet taste, delicious smell and intense yellow-orange of its flesh can make for a yummy treat — desired by people throughout the world.
This Business Development and Investment (BDI) project in Haiti supported private sector development by assisting more than 1,300 producers of avocado, cacao, coffee, and mangoes to export to the United States, Europe, and Japan. Twenty percent of the producers who benefitted from this project were women, and 32 percent lived in disaster-affected areas. No subsidies were applied in the project; instead, it provided working capital to farmers and to the providers of collecting, processing packing and shipping services, using an innovative blockchain solution for traceability and payments.
